The aftermath from Sunday night’s collision between a red SUV and Christmas parade watchers in Milwaukee was dealt with by authorities in the suburb of Milwaukee overnight.

According to FOX 6 Milwaukee, Chief Dan Thompson, the chief of police, said that some fatalities took place at the Waukesha events.

Wauskesha’s city officials announced Monday that at least 5 people were dead and 40 had suffered injuries. Both numbers may change, they warned.

A news conference was scheduled for Monday and will provide more information.

On social media, chilling footage showed the SUV driving through parade participants with loud screams heard from others who were there to witness the tragedy. Others showed the people helping the wounded.

Oh my God! After a Santa Claus-themed group of girls wearing white pompoms waving white pompoms was struck, a woman is heard shouting over and over. The Associated Press also reported that another video features members of a marching orchestra being hit.

“There were pompoms, shoes and hot chocolate spilled everywhere,” Corey Montiho told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He was a Waukesha board member and parent. “I had to travel from one crumpled corpse to the next to pay for my daughter’s education. My husband and my two daughters almost lost their lives. Pray for everyone. We ask for your prayers.

The AP reports that gunshots were heard near the scene, but they were reportedly the result of a police officer trying stop the vehicle. According to authorities, no one was seriously injured in the incident.

An Archdiocese of Milwaukee spokesperson told the AP that the parade was fatally injured by a Roman Catholic priest and multiple parishioners, as well as Catholic schoolchildren.

Parade performers the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies also were affected by the tragedy – and shared on Facebook that they were awaiting more information about their members who were injured.

They asked for prayers and requested the Grannies to keep them, the people who suffered, and everyone else who was there witness this awful event.

WaukeshaXtremeDance team also thanked public members for concern, as reported by the Journal-Sentinel.

The AP reports that authorities also took one person into custody. They also recovered the car linked to the tragedy.

Posts on social media contained the identity and photo of possible suspects. Fox News has withheld this information until the authorities confirm it.

The news agency said that 12 children and 11 adults were injured. Children’s Hospital of Milwaukee said that as of 8 p.m. CT it had 15 patients and no fatalities.

FOX 6 reported Waukesha Police were getting assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Justice in their investigation.

Waukesha was about 55 miles from Kenosha. A separate march was organized Sunday by people opposed to the Kyle Rittenhouse murder verdict. Rittenhouse, who was accused of two deaths at a Kenosha protest last year, was acquitted on Friday.

There was no immediate indication that Sunday’s parade tragedy had any connection to events in Kenosha or to terrorism, according to reports.
