Calzada finished 21-for-31, with 285 receiving yards, three touchdown passes (and an interception), and was 21-for-31. His game-tying touchdown pass from Ainias to Smith caused Calzada to fall with what appeared to be a leg injury. He was able to shake that off, and led the Aggies down field to make the Small kick.
This upset stunned the college football community.
Texas A&M had control throughout the first half. Calzada had two touchdown passes in the first quarter – one to Smith and the other to Jalen Wydermyer. Isaiah Spiller ran for a touchdown of 15 yards. To start the second half, Aggies led 24-10.
Alabama is not a possibility.

Alabama blocked a kickoff and recovered the ball at the goal line in an effort to change the tide. Devon Achane of the Aggies returned a kick that was 96 yards and scored a touchdown. Texas A&M was hanging tough.
With 5 minutes left in the game, the Crimson Tide scored 21 consecutive points to take a lead of 38-31. Calzada, who wasn’t even the starting quarterback to start the season, led a 6-play, 65-yard drive to tie the game. Calzada then led a 54-yard, 8-play drive to score the game-winning field goal for Small.
It’s the first time Nick Saban has ever lost to a former assistant coach – this one coming to Jimbo Fisher. It’s Alabama’s first loss since Nov. 30, 2019, when they lost by three to Auburn.
Bryce Young was a great player trying to bring the team back into the game. His final stats included 369 yards passing and three touchdown passes, along with an interception.
Brian Robinson Jr. ran for 147 yards but didn’t score.
Jameson Williams had 10 touchdown receptions and a total of 146 yards. Roydell William had the second touchdown catch.
