Southwest cancels over a thousand flights. The airline cites issues with air-traffic control
Southwest Airlines canceled more than 1,000 flights this weekend amid air traffic control issues and weather.

“ATC issues and disruptive weather have resulted in a high volume of cancellations throughout the weekend while we work to recover our operation,” Southwest said in a statement on Twitter Saturday. We appreciate your patience while we assist affected customers. Customer service wait times may be longer than normal.

FlightAware tracks delays and cancellations on the airline’s website. Southwest has cancelled 1,018 flights, with 597 flight delays Sunday. Southwest cancelled 808 flights Saturday while 1,187 were delayed.

FOX Business was given a longer statement by Southwest Sunday afternoon.

FOX Business spokeswoman said, “We had weather difficulties at our Florida airports on the weekend. This was compounded in unexpected air traffic control issues within the same area, which caused delays and caused significant cancellations starting Friday evening.”

Federal Aviation Administration spokesmen said that Friday was the end of air traffic control problems. Southwest Airlines Pilots Association filed a motion to temporarily halt the airline from violating its COVID-19 vaccination mandate. The association issued a statement clarifying the fact that there was no connection between the delays and cancellations. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ABOUT OUR TOP STORY
