Then he told lies about his efforts to help a homeless vet and must now pay off a huge debt.

It was a kind gesture anyone could applaud – but it turned out to be a giant fraud.

One man from New Jersey pled guilty to wire fraud conspiracy this week. This case captured all the attention in America.

It captured a media naive enough to believe any statement that is consistent with their beliefs.

But if any of you heard this story, you knew it was as fake as Kim Kardashian’s butt. Half of it.

Back in 2017, Mark D’Amico and his ex-girlfriend cooked up an entire story to raise money for a homeless guy using GoFundMe — the same site that shut down the Rittenhouse defense fund, if you like to keep track.

D’Amico claimed the down-on-his-luck veteran, Johnny Bobbitt Junior, gave them his last $20 for gas.

The veterans started a GoFundMe account to help them pay it forward.

Similar to what Joe did in China for Hunter.

The story was picked up by media outlets, who covered it as the touching tale that it was.

ABC ANCHOR : A national tribute to a veteran has been captured by the ABC News Anchor.

KATE McCLURE: How about a GoFundMe to help this man? On the return trip, we set it up in our car.

ABC ANCHOR : From zero dollars to 300, some even a thousand, you’re moving from the literal to the real.

JOHNNY BOBBBITT: It’s almost like winning the lottery.

MSNBC ANCHOR – Johnny Bobbitt had lost his way. After one act of kindness, however, thousands have stepped up to assist the veteran who is homeless.

ABC ANCHOR – A homeless vet, living in Philadelphia and teaching the nation what it means for a person to give.

But it was as touching as hot bacon grease.

Yes, that’s right – just like the Nigerian prince who claimed he would marry me and give my a $25 million dowry.

(I flew to Amsterdam to see him, and he held me accountable. I had a great time getting those goats through customs.

It turns out that they did it all and defrauded nearly 14,000 donors from $400,000.

Money that bankrolled vacations, a BMW,  clothes and other stuff. Perhaps a Hunter Biden painting.

Bobbitt didn’t see a lot of money, so he was on the streets again.

Turns out  GoFundMe became “go f— yourself.”

The ex-girlfriend, along with the homeless person, pleaded guilty in 2019 to conspiring to commit wire fraud and were awaiting sentence.

He won’t end up homeless, I suppose.

As for D’Amico, he’s facing 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, and probably a job at CNN when he gets out, where pushing hoaxes is the profit model, no matter how many people it harms.

What’s the takeaway?

It’s a sign of total crap if the story gets too personal.

When this story first came out, it was a “One More Thing,” on “The Five,” so we didn’t actually look too closely.

We were too busy combing Geraldo’s mustache.

This takes approximately four hours with 12 people. Sounds like a weekend.

However, we now live in a world where anyone can assume a story is real.

LIBERAL MEDIA ROUTINELY DOWNPLAY INFLATION OR TURN IT INTO A POSITIVE: ‘SLASH YOUR SHOPPING BURDEN’

Each story is driven by false narratives that are spun by journalists who enjoy telling them.

You could think of the Covington child, Kavanaugh hearings or the tale about Kyle Rittenhouse.

Truth is that stories can be told without facts.

Steele captured the attention of a number cognitively biased people. They clung to the dossier like Stelter on donuts, even though it was constantly changing.

They wanted Trump to be a real hooker, so they were content to just poop on it.

It was America’s public that got caught up in the filthy laundry.
