Gowdy: Republicans must put 'differences and ambitions aside,' let American people restore balance in midterms

Trey Gowdy of Sunday Night in America stated on Saturday that Americans want to see a better America, not a different country.

As the nation looks ahead, in Sunday’s opening monologue on Sunday, the ex-South Carolina congressman called for congressional Republicans “to put their differences aside long enough to allow history and American people to restore equilibrium.”

The host stated that democracy has the advantage of allowing for another election. Election Night 2022, if the past is prologue will be a difficult one for Democrats. Historical evidence and current polling support this conclusion. The Democrats are facing several headwinds, the pandemic is still here, the economy is sputtering … people are concerned about the border and crime and education.”

“We have a history of what will happen during midterms. But the real question is, why is it so common?” He was curious. “Do political party over-read electoral results?”

Gowdy highlighted the limited control Democrats enjoy in the U.S. Senate. The current split of the chamber between Republicans and Democrats is 50-50. Two independents are also present, and Vice President Kamala Harris serves as tiebreaker.

This is perhaps how they respond to political parties that forget them. They can create chaos in the political system.

He said, “If not Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Silena, Democrats would never control the Senate.”

This begs the question: How much power can you get if your power is from a Senator in West Virginia? A state where Biden didn’t win any single county?

“Seriously. How much of the Biden Agenda do you believe West Virginia would like to see implemented?” He added. “Perhaps that the American people enjoy checks and balances. Maybe we also like change. This is perhaps how they respond to political parties who forget them. They cause political chaos.”

The host said that the country will return to “legislative gridlock” in 2022 if history and polling are any indicator.

The question now is whether the current leaders will be able to recognize that Americans want competency, and not transformation. They are looking for a more American, and not an America different. Americans have more in common with Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema than they do the ‘Squad,’ even if the media does not,” Gowdy said.

“Will Republicans let their disagreements and ambitions go long enough for America’s history to bring balance back? Will Georgia do the same thing again?”
