Brice, Appalachian State upset No. 14 Coastal Carolina 30-27

As time expired, Chandler Staton made a field goal of 24 yards and Appalachian State defeated 14th-ranked Coastal Carolina 3027.

Chase Brice was a great thrower with 347 yards, two touchdowns and Malik Williams played a huge game. Malik Williams caught 10 passes for 206 yards and scored a touchdown before a crowd of 31,061 at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Camerun Peoples scored two touchdowns in support of the Mountaineers (5-2 and 2-1 Sun Belt). They have never been beaten at home by the Chanticleers.

The Mountaineers moved into the driver’s seat in the conference’s East division and could prevent Coastal Carolina (6-1, 2-1) from reaching the championship game.

Grayson McCall threw 291 yards for Coastal Carolina and one touchdown. This team lost its 11-game winning streak in the Sun Belt.

Coastal Carolina scored 48.8 average points. But, 575 more Chanticleers than 376 were there and McCall was not protected in the second.

Appalachian State’s defense made three Coastal Carolina penalties in the fourth quarter. Brice was able and allowed to run the final drive with great field position at Mountaineers38. Brice was then able to throw to Williams consecutively from 19 to 16 yards for field goal range.

Appalachian State made sure not to score a touchdown during the final seconds of the game to stop Coastal Carolina getting the ball. Peoples fell on his knees at the end, instead of crossing over the goal line. Staton was awarded the win by the Mountaineers, who slowed down the clock until 3 seconds.

It appeared that Coastal Carolina would win the race with it very early.

McCall faked that he would run on the third and fourth plays drawing in the linebackers, but instead threw a pass across the middle to Kameron Brown who ran 74 yards to score a touchdown.

However, the Mountaineers held firm behind Williams, an extremely senior wide receiver. Williams snared 2 long passes to give App State its first score. After a successful onside kick, Williams gathered a touchdown of 47 yards to tie it.

Mason Biscardi scored field goals of 46 and 50 yards for Chanticleers, which led to a lead of 20-14 at the half. Appalachian State would fight back late in the third quarter to tie the score at 27. Peoples ran a 43-yard touchdown around the right end to make it 27-14.

App State was on the verge of scoring the winning touchdown midway through the fourth period, but Daetrich Harrirn couldn’t grasp a handoff properly and fumbled at the Coastal Carolina line 7 yards away. However, the defense stood strong and provided another opportunity for the offense to win the game.

Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers’ offense was a failure in the second quarter. They scored just seven points. Chanticleers’ 14-0 lead meant that the defense was unable to find their rhythm.

Appalachian State – It’s a surprise. This is what the Mountaineers do. Brice was almost flawless, passing 18 of his 28 passes. The defense pulled off some huge wins in the final quarter.

This loss is more evidence that Coastal Carolina’s schedule was weak and it has been overrated by the polls, according to skeptics. They could fall quite a bit, but they are unlikely to drop all the way from the Top 25.

Coastal Carolina: Troy will face Coastal Carolina in a mid-week game on Oct. 28.
