Biden’s border crisis – preventable, predictable and deadly

The migrant caravans continue their march north from Mexico’s deepest regions. An estimated 3,000 people, most of them Haitians, are the latest group to leave Mexico for America. They began the 1,350-mile journey north from Tapachula on the Guatemala border, a week ago. They left with permission from the Mexican government – none of the migrant caravans moves without approval from Mexico City.

Speaking on Fox News, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the Biden administration was “inviting” would-be migrants, and further charged that the administration is not permitting the Border Patrol “to do their jobs … or protect the border. They’re not allowed to have the resources that they need.”

Paxton warned, however, that Mexican drug cartels are growing in strength and that they make an average $8,000 per person they smuggle over the border.

While consistently dodging questions on the ongoing border crisis, the Biden administration claims the crisis isn’t one, that “root causes” must be addressed – as if they’re prepared to root out deep-seated corruption from Mexico to the Northern Triangle nations of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. They add that they want an immigration system that’s “fair, orderly, and humane” – which is odd given they’ve made the system more unfair, disorderly, and dangerous.

It’s not surprising that the border crisis has turned into a major problem. As soon as he took office, President Joe Biden ordered an end to most of President Donald Trump’s border initiatives.

Is this the border wall? The wall was stopped abruptly, leaving huge holes in it.

Immediate deportations? Paused. This was succeeded by night charter flights to military bases far into the U.S. interior.

What is the Remain in Mexico Program? Ended, in the face of court orders to keep it operational – but without pressure from Biden, the Mexican government has little incentive to cooperate.

Is the ban on travel to countries rife in terrorism? Lifted.

Is it really that bad?

Now, the Border Patrol is so busy processing minors and family units into the country that the number of “got-aways” – unauthorized migrants spotted but not apprehended – ballooned.

The numbers don’t lie. Under Biden’s watch, apprehensions of illegal migrants along America’s southwest border soared to their highest ever, topping 1,659,206 for fiscal year 2021, breaking the previous record set in 2000, during the Clinton administration.

Biden has exempted minors of the COVID-19 medical expulsion order. This was previously applicable to all people due to the pandemic. This drew more than 144,000 foreign national minors – including people pretending to be under 18 – to illegally enter the country the past 12 months.

Now, the Border Patrol is so busy processing minors and family units into the country that the number of “got-aways” – unauthorized migrants spotted but not apprehended – ballooned to more than 400,000 during this fiscal year. Chris Cabrera of the National Border Patrol Council claims that this is an underestimate and that it could easily be double or triple that number.

It was the Biden administration that ended the Remain In Mexico policy also called the Migrant Protection Protocols. This allowed mass abuse to the U.S. asylum system. When a person seeks asylum, they are expected to claim it in the country where they arrive after fleeing oppression and genocide. Instead of making those claiming asylum wait in Mexico, the Biden administration is releasing them on their own recognizance into the U.S. and often granting them parole – permission to work and set down roots in America – prior to any legal hearing.

Even more concerning, U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized enough fentanyl this year to kill over two billion people. This would be enough to wipe out the U.S. entire population. In the same time, drug overdose deaths hit an all-time high of 100.306 in 12 months ending April 2021. The majority of those deaths (75,673) were due to opioids mostly fentanyl.

The Mexican drug cartels get their fentanyl, or the ingredients to make it, from the People’s Republic of China. It is easy to see that drug overdoses kill three times as many Americans than traffic accidents, and twice the number of Americans who die from gunshot wounds, with 60% being suicides.

Fentanyl seizures skyrocket at border under Joe Biden Video

Unfortunately, the Biden-Biden border crisis could have been avoided and was predictable. The Texas Public Policy Foundation assembled a team of experts from Texas to simulate a border crisis one year ago. These were its key findings

*Biden’s administration will likely be soft on illegal immigration, leading to “a new wave” of migrants who may travel to the border.

*“The Biden Administration will not be able to deal with the magnitude of the crisis, as it unfolds.”

*“It’s almost certain that drug overdose deaths will skyrocket in America by 2021 or later.”

*“The removal of restrictions on travel to certain countries will allow for a greater flow of terrorist-related individuals into the U.S.

Given the Biden administration’s clear willingness to ignore both the law and court rulings, the border crisis will likely continue until Democrats realize the electoral pain may outweigh the expected gain.
